Hotel Virudhunagar, T Nagar, Chennai

It was last Sunday I and my cousins went to hotel Virudhunagar in T Nagar, Chennai. It is located at GN chetty road, near to Rohini International Hotel.

Ambience:
If you are person who loves the ambience than food, then this hotel is not for you. This restaurant is crowded, furnished with normal chairs and tables. The AC doesn’t feel quite chill due to the huge crowd in the restaurant.

Service:
Even this restaurant does not employ professional people for service. But the good thing with service people here is they know how to engage with customers and they do explain certain things about a dish, like how spicy is the dish, their specialties etc.

Food:
Virudhunagar Restaurant is also an authentic south Indian chettinad restaurant. Their specialities are south Indian, even though they serve Chinese and North Indian cuisine.

We had a look at menu and ordered for Mutton biriyani, mutton chukka, Sura puttu, Vanjiram fish fry and brian roast.

This is one restaurant whatever dish we ordered tasted awesome. Biriyani was hot and spicy, mutton was cooked soft, same with mutton chukka it just fills your mouth with aroma and taste. If you are great foodie and love to feast on south Indian cuisine, then this restaurant is for you.

Cost:We incurred a total bill of Rs 1050, which very economical considering the amount of food we ordered. This is one restaurant I have decided to visit often

Food Village, ECR, Chennai, Tamil Nadu

It was a sunny afternoon last Sunday, I, my friend and his wife went to Fast and Furious 5 and both my friend and his want to go to Amaravathi for lunch. But I was bored of being in city and just wanted go for a drive and we chose Food village restaurant, which is in ECR road, Chennai.

I have been to this restaurant before while in college, but haven’t been to this restaurant in recent past. We reached the restaurant around 1.30 PM, it was not that crowded and got seated immediately. The waiter brought us the menu card and the rates are definitely bit costly than other restaurants around. But according to my past knowledge they always had great variety of foods and their food mostly tasted yummy.

We then ordered sweet corn chicken soup, dragon chicken and fish finger for starters. Soup was ok, dragon chicken was real good and fish fingers was not it used to be here and there was more French fries than fish and it definitely don’t worth the cost.

After the starters for main course we ordered butter naan, chicken tikka masala, panner butter masala and chicken biriyani.

Butter naan was really good and both chicken tikka masala and panner butter masala was ok, but not extraordinary for that cost. The real disaster was the biriyani. I can’t even call it a biriyani, it was worse than a road side biriyani. And this biriyani costs Rs 180.

For people who are planning a short drive in ECR for dinner or lunch, please be sure what do you want to eat in this restaurant. The ambience is really good but the food is not that good when compared to the price they charge

So take your friends and family to this restaurant at your own risk. If you are lucky you might order a dish that is really good or you might end like how we did.

Will be back next week with another Chennai restaurant experience. Probably, Ambur Star biriyani which has recently opened its branch in vadapalani.

Hotel velu Military, Anna Nagar, Chennai

It was last Friday, I and my friend met for a drink. We initially thought of going for Buhari hotel near chinthamani signal, but decided to go for Velu Military restaurant as it was nearby.

Velu Military is conveniently located near the Anna Nagar coffee day signal; it’s in the first floor of the building near the signal.

Ambience:

There is nothing much to speak about the ambience of the restaurant it was quite ok, but only let off is they have connected three AC blowers to one compressor and the chillness in the restaurant was really low

Service:

The service people are quite ok, due to man shortage most of the restaurants in Chennai employ unqualified people, and the service persons are not very professional, but definitely not rude as well.

Food:

Velu Military is an authentic south Indian chettinad restaurant, even though it’s a multi cuisine their specialty is south Indian chettinad food. They have great variety in their menu; they have rabbit, van kozhi, kadai, nattu kozhi, fish, prawns and more.

We first ordered for two sets of parotta, one velu military special fried chicken and one egg masala. Parotta was ok, whereas velu military special fried chicken was awesome and egg masala was below average.

Then we ordered for one plain dosa, plain Ceylon parotta and chicken onion fired. Dosa was ok, Ceylon parotta was very oily and chicken onion fried was one to definitely amaze your taste buds in velu military.

Cost:

The total bill came around Rs 415, which according to current Chennai restaurant rates was ok

Verdict:

Average ambience, average service and Ok food.
